An education

We are continuing our moving plans and last week we went preschool hunting. It was quite the experience. We went armed with the names of 2 preschools and in hopes that we would come across a few more. We didn't intend to take the kids but it worked out that we needed to so off we all went. I wish I had brought our camera, but someone was borrowing it so you'll have to settle for my descriptions.
The college prep: The first preschool was huge, beautiful, and immaculately kept. In addition to their regular classes, the children were studying, piano, violin, swimming, computers, and also took semester trips :-) The headmistress was kind and accomodating, but was more interested in hiring me to teach English than the children. It was also a bit expensive and since we're not attempting to advance our children into college by our preschool choice we'll pass.
The pirate ship: The 2nd preschool was quite nice. It was decorated like a huge ship with fish everywhere which made Robbie laugh. The only thing that threw me off was the size. It was 2 entire buildings so quite huge. But it almost got my vote.

Far Out: The 3rd preschool was so far away that we turned the taxi around before we reached it

Snooty: The 4th school was so high brow that we did not even qualify to make it into the front gate. We chatted with the guard who refused us entrace for a reason we couldn't understand. We asked to talk to a member of the staff. Finally one came out and after a bit of akward translation we discovered that we were neither important enough nor had enough money for our children to even enter the property :-) This made us laugh.
The village: The 5th school had us running out the door as quickly as we could manage. The people had apparently never before seen foreign children so they were practically crawling over each other to touch the kids. The entire school smelled like a very large public potty! The classrooms each had 35 kids and all of the classrooms I saw the kids were watching TV. It was dirty and made me a little nauseated.

THE ONE: We had time for one more stop before we needed to head home so we asked the next taxi driver to take us to a preschool he would recommend. We just prayed that God would guide Him and us to the right place. First he started out to the big college entrance one. We asked if there was anywhere else he could recommend and he drove us to THE ONE. It was relatively small and clean with nice size classes of 15-20 kids. They had 3 other foreign children so it was not their first experience with "white children" No one got too excited or tried to touch the kids. It is almost exactly like Robbie's current preschool in setup and staffing. They even teach the kids to rollerblade which Robbie is becoming quite accomplished in at Bluetooth (our current school). It was perfect. We are so thankful that God guided us there. From what we have heard there are about 40 preschools in the city so we could have had quite a long hunt. We were so thankful to find exactly what we were looking for in only one day of looking. It was quite an educational experience and again we are amazed by God's obvious guiding on our behalf.

So now onto the next great adventure.........the apartment hunt :-)

  2. HE always steps in just when you need Him most :) If you hadn't seen the first half a dozen bad schools, you wouldn't have appreciated the good one so much. Trust that HE will also do the same with an apartment....even while you are looking at the first awful, stinky, dirty few.

  3. I just reread this one and am amazed to realize just how many preschools are in the city! It must be pretty reassuring that God guided you to The One so quickly. He knew how important this is to you. He gave you just what you needed!
